Monalisa McGee-Baratta

PhD, NCC, MAC, LMHP, CPC, LMHC, LPC

For over 20 years, Monalisa McGee-Baratta has practiced, taught, and provided administration for multistate behavioral health programs. Dr. McGee-Baratta currently serves as Program Chair of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Online Program for the University of Phoenix’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She previously served as the Divisional Social Services Director for The Salvation Army Western Division, where she supervised clinical programs and human resource functions. Under Dr. McGee-Baratta’s leadership, Early Head Start, Veterans Services, HUD, and behavioral health programs were established and grew in three states. Additional experiences include serving as Mosaic’s Governmental Affairs and Policy Director and as the dministrator for elecare for subacute psychiatric units in Nebraska.

Through advocacy, scholarship, and legislative initiatives, Dr. McGee-Baratta has advocated for human services and supported the implementation of earmarks including the United States Senate Health Education Labor and Pension Committee’s “Iowa Community Integration Project.” Dr. McGee-Baratta's research was cited in President Obama’s MLTSS Report.

Dr. McGee-Baratta's personal investment in advocacy has grown from a deep commitment to service, instilled in her from her youth as the daughter of John McGee, Peace Corps administrator and founder of Gentle Teaching. From her early childhood experiences in Brazil and later service with the Salvation Army, Dr. McGee-Baratta respects the transformative power of community. She has worked with governmental agencies to advance public awareness of human trafficking and expand funding to support a robust continuum of care and vocational rehabilitation.

Dr. McGee served on the board of NBCC’s affiliate the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE), including a term as Chair in 2016–2017. Dr. McGee-Baratta graduated with honors from Creighton University and was awarded outstanding minority graduate student by Creighton Black Faculty and Administrators.
